When I started writing down artists that I like, I began seeing that they were a variety of both non-commercial fine artists and commercial artists. Instead of trying to come up with a list of ten, pitting Bruce Timm against Pablo Picasso and Hokusai against Walt Kelly, I decided that I would come up with a list of ten for both styles. As you might be able to tell, my favorite styles of fine art fall into the more abstract or impressionist realms. A few artists are masters of Ukiyo-e, or Japanese woodblock printing, whose work offers a more impressionistic or stylized view of the world. My tastes in commercial artists tend to reflect the simplicity and boldness of my favorite fine art...from the lush color stylings of Mary Blair to the playful lines of Theodor Geisel.
