The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1979)
I have fond memories of watching the Carol Burnett Show when I was younger. The show sported a wonderful cast that included Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner. This group produced some of the funniest television sketch comedy that still remains fresh in my mind. In fact, I think I learned about many a classic movie from the hilarious spoofs of this show -- from Nora Desmond, Carol's take on the famed Sunset Boulevard character to Gone with the Wind to Mildred Pierce. All the characters were wonderful on this show. My favorites were the ones that revolved around Eunice, Ed and Mama. While these characters were caricatured, I felt that there was an honesty and love in their portrayal. It's too bad that these skits evolved into the extremely bad 80s syndicated show Mama's Family. While the first season of this show was not bad, it eventually became a mere shadow of the original skits. Other favorite skits were "As The Stomach Turns," "Mr. Tudball and Mrs. Wiggins", "The Old Man," "Carol & Sis" and "Stella Todler." The Carol Burnett Show Links
