    CIRCLE OF FRIENDS
I actually wasn't expecting anything great from Circle of Friends, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is one of the sweetest love stories I've seen on film. Based on a best selling novel by Maeve Binchy, the film tells the tale of three friends -- social climbing Nan (Saffron Burrows), sweet Eve (Geraldine O'Rawe) and akward Benny (Minnie Driver). When the three enter college, the three discover love in different ways. Nan quickly takes aim at the wealthy Simon Westward (Colin Firth) and Eve takes it slowly with Aidan (Aidan Gillen). Benny, on the otherhand, finds herself head-over-heels in love with the handsome Jack Foley (Chris O'Donnell) and finds that her affections are returned. But, Benny comes from a small town and a strong religious background...so, what's a girl to do? The death of her father and an affair with a devious Nan finally break the couple apart. But, true love prevails and the couple are brought back together in the end. Beautifully acted with a wonderful Irish setting.

    1995, Directed by Pat O'Connor
