Loren's Top 10 Movies
1. Gilda (1946) |
This 1946 film noir classic starring Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford is perhaps my favorite film. It packed full of wonderful acting and the sharpest and pithiest lines in film history. For example, when Gilda (Hayworth) is "introduced" to Johnny (Ford) by her new husband Ballin Mundson (George MacCready), with a flip of the hair and a longing look, she acts very cold toward him, letting the audience know that some kind of history existed between them. This prompts her to say, after repeatedly forgetting his name, to retort, "Oh, I'm sorry...Johnny's such a hard name to remember, and such an easy one to forget." Rita Hayworth exudes sensuality and Glenn ford is quite convincing as a man forced to deal with his past at the very time that he's trying to forget it. 1946, Directed by Charles Vidor
