Roseanne (1988-1997)
I resisted Roseanne for such a long time. I thought...who would want to see a show starring whinny people fighting amongst each other as they try to make ends meet? But then, one night, when all the other shows I watched were in repeat, I decided to see why American seemed so crazy for what I thought would be a simple show. Instead, I found a show with great depth. The reason why I questioned it is precisely the reason what makes it special. Unlike a show like Married With Children which depends on the family fighting and disliking each other, Roseanne

presented these tensions with such honesty...but not without showing us that all of it is done with love.
This show truly is one of the best shows on television and it was sad to see the show starting to fall into the category of shallow spoof in its last season. However, it was wonderful to see how Roseanne wrapped up the series as creative writing to help her heal from the death of husband Dan (John Goodman).
