    SWING TIME
Without argument from me, this 1936 classic is the best Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie. In this film, Fred Astaire plays Lucky, a gambler who falls meets and falls in love with a dance instructor named Penny (played by Ginger Rogers). In the spirit of all Astaire-Rogers movies, a certain tension exists that keep the two lovers apart. In this case, its Lucky's gambling problem and the fact that he has a fiancee back home. But, what brings the two together is dancing! And what dancing! The dance sequences are the best the famous dancing duo have ever done. When Astaire sings "Never Gonna Dance" at the end of the film, its more than just a song, but a tribute to their love, telling the story of their entire romance. According to the Internet Movie Database, "The climax of 'Never Gonna Dance' took 47 takes in a single day and required many demanding spins of Ginger Rogers; her feet bled." Aside from the dancing, Swing Time offers a fantastic soundtrack featuring some of the most loved Jerome Kern-Dorothy Fields music, including "Pick Yourself Up," "A Fine Romance," "The Way You Look Tonight" and of course "Never Gonna Dance." Victor Moore, Helen Broderick and Eric Blore offer the perfect comedy relief.

    1936, Directed by George Stevens
