James Bond 007

I have to admit, I never really got into James Bond (which is odd for me because I love that whole genre). I'll probably rent a couple movies someday and get hooked...but, as I'm writing this, I have to admit that my knowledge of the series is limited.

I don't know of many Asian or Asian Pacific Americans in the 007 movies, except for Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). See the toy decription for more information about that representation. If anybody has more information about Bond movies, Wai Lin or anything else, please feel free to e-mail me at loren@javier.com.

Tomorrow Never Dies
Individual Figure

I LOVE MICHELLE YEOH! I have to share this story about how she came to be a partner for Bond rather than the classic buxom Bond Girl they normally cast. In a December 20, 1997 Toronto Sun article, she was quoted as saying:

"Just after they did GoldenEye, an executive from United Artists called me for a meeting," says Yeoh (whose real name is Yeoh Choo Kheng). "And he said,'You know you would be perfect in the next Bond film.' And I said 'Yeah? Could I play Bond? Because I sure don't see myself as a Bond girl.' "

The Producers and Director thought this was a fabulous idea. And that's what they did...they made her Bond's Chinese counterpart with all her own skills and toys.

While, this figure is not the greatest representation of the top female action star of the Hong Kong film industry, this is the only American toy (that I know of) with her likeness. Hopefully, with the success of films like Crouching Tiger, Rising Dragon (2000) and rumors of her considering The Matrix sequels, we'll see more of her. This is an Exclusive Premiere limited edition collector's series figure from Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). She's fully posable and comes in a black jumpsuit. The back of the box opens like a book that shows pictures of Pierce Brosnan as Bond and Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin, as well as historical information about Bond.
