Bruce Lee is perhaps the most famous martial artist known here in the United States. He was a pioneer for Asian Pacific Americans in the media, showing that APA men could be masculine, tough and confident. Although, he also suffered much discrimination. While playing Kato on The Green Hornet, Bruce worked to develop a vehicle in which he could play the main character. The hit 1970s television show Kung Fu was supposed to feature Bruce Lee. But, instead, they went with David Carradine to play the role of a Chinese man. And thus, "yellow face" was perpetuated. So, Bruce went to Hong Kong and started making some great martial arts films. His films garnered so much attention, that he soon found Hollywood calling him back...this time, on his own terms. The result was Warner Brothers' Enter the Dragon, perhaps the most well known of Lee's films. Perhaps it was because it was his last. Lee died mysteriously soon after the release of this film.
