Ronin Warriors

Again, I don't know much about this series. I do know that it's based on a popular anime that made its way to American television. According to the back of the card, "The malevolent forces of the Dynasty have crushed the megapolis and now threaten to bring the rest of mankind to its knees. Enter the mighty Ronin Warriors, bringing hope, faith and a ton of armor to take on the dark Shogun masters of the Dynasty. Join Ryo, Sage, Rowen, Kento and Cye as they band together to form the elite Samurai team known as the Ronin Warriors. These five fierce battle troopers, shrouded by the Circle of Light, "flare-up" and summon the energy of the Ancient Samurai Masters, channeling the virtues of light, justice, trust, wisdom and the life force. The Ronin Warriors are the final defense against the brutal dark overlords who will stop at nothing to conquer the world! This is the stuff of legends: the piercing of plated armor and the furious poetry of Samurai movements." Playmates Toys apparently saw the potential of this series and made a really nice looking action figure line.

Each figure comes with a slew of removable armor pieces as well as weaponry. Also, all figures have "power coil" spring articulation, which means that you can pull their arms and legs back to do "power" punches and kicks. Another cool thing about these figures is that you can interlock their hands and feet and make them wrestle.

It's always difficult trying to decide whether or not to include anime characters as part of this toy chest. The reason I decided to include it was because, unlike Sailor Moon, the characters are not renamed for American audiences. Also, the Samurai motiff toy produced by an American company makes it difficult to pass up. Anyway, this is what I have so far:

Ryo Ryo
Ronin Warriors
1999, Playmates
Ronin Warriors Individual Figure

Ryo is the leader of the Ronin Warriors and represents "Virtue." Apparently, he's all about fire because according to the card, he is 17 years old and wears red "Wildfire" armor that apparently has the power to shoot fire and branded with the symbol of the Everlasting Flame. His keyword is "Jin" (virtue) and his special attack cry is "Flare Up Now!" He's an exceptional athlete and his partner is White Blaze, the White Tiger. If you know more about our young hero here, please e-mail me.

Sage
Ronin Warriors
1999, Playmates
Ronin Warriors Individual Figure

Sage, as his name suggests, represents "Wisdom." And, because he represents wisdom, Sage is very intelligent and tends to be the most strategic, exercising caution by developing plan. He possesses the green Halo armor which has the power to heal, making him invaluable, and his symbol is "Truth." His keyword is "Gi" (justice) and his special attack cry is "Thunder Bolt Cut!" He's a master swordsman and his partner is Blizzard, the Big Wolf.

If you know more about this hero, please e-mail me.

Sage

Cye Cye
Ronin Warriors
1999, Playmates
Ronin Warriors Individual Figure

Cye represents "Truth." Unlike the other Ronin Warriors, he tends to be quiet and contemplative, having faith in his team mates to do the talking. He possesses the blue Torrent armor which allows him control over water. His symbol is "Harmony," probably accounting for his quiet nature. His keyword is "Shin" (trust) and his special attack cry is "Super Wave Smasher!" He's the group mediator and his partner is Jaw Breaker, the Killer Whale. Interestingly, the figure does NOT include his signature trident (his weapon of choice). If you know more about this hero, please e-mail me.

Cale
Ronin Warriors
1999, Playmates
Ronin Warriors Individual Figure

Cale is the "Dark Warlord of Corruption" and perhaps is the most power hungry. Where Sage represents "light," he represents "darkness." He is a disciple to Talpa, the master of the evil Dynasty. His power source are the shadows and his special skill is striking with sharp fangs and claws. His evil spirit is the "Oni, Japanese Spirit of the Ogre" and his special attack cry is "Black Lightning Flash!" He uses his special "Sword of Darkness" in battle. If you know more about this villain, please e-mail me.

Cale

Talpa Talpa
Ronin Warriors
1999, Playmates
Ronin Warriors Individual Figure

Talpa is the leader of the Dark Warlords and "Master of the Evil Dynasty." He is a creature who has lived over 1,000 years and has ruled over the Nether Realm. The self-proclaimed "Emperor of Death and Destruction," he embodies all that is evil in his quest to take over the Earth. He can achieve this by getting his armor back -- all 9 suits of armor combined into one. If you know more about this villain, please e-mail me.
