This category is devoted to Asian Pacific Americans who appear in science fiction or fantasy related toy lines. APAs are no stranger to science fiction with Hikaru Sulu having been part of the most famous excusion into the stars and boldly went where no man had gone before.

This section will highlight space exploration, epic stuggles between good and evil, fantastic adventures, as well as magic and science.

Toy lines relating to this category are:

STAR TREK
Asian Pacific Americans are no strangers to science fiction thanks to Lt. Hikaru Sulu (now Captain Sulu). His being part of the most famous excursion into the stars assured that APAs would boldy go where no man had gone before. Subsequent Star Trek series also featured APA characters, including Keiko O'Brien (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and Ensign Harry Kim (Star Trek: Voyager).

STAR WARS
Unlike Star Trek, Asian Pacific Americans in Star Wars didn't necessarily lie in its human characters. As you will see Asian inspired aliens -- from almond eyed pilots to Fu Manchu like enemies...check it out.

FLASH GORDON
But, before there was Star Wars, there was Flash Gordon with an even more famous Asian inspired alien -- Ming the Merciless...

TITAN A.E.
I'm rather sad that this movie wasn't more of a success, because I would have loved to have seen more toys come out of this movie. Sadly, only one toy of Akima, the fierce Japanese-American pilot, was made. She was a great character that broke the stereotypes.

SPAWN
It only stands to reason that Spawn would have an Asian feel, as the art is very anime inspired. Technically, Spawn is more of a superhero. But, I decided to put this line in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy section because it is more fantastic than your standard superhero fare and the toys challenge your imagination.

HARI KARI
Check out this toy I found in the bargain racks. She's a demon huntress...'nuff said.

ROBOTECH
Interestingly, Robotech, in its American translation, is an adaptation of a Japanese anime with only one Asian character -- a Chinese American waitress/singer named Lynn Minmei...

GODS, GODDESSES AND OTHER MYTHELLANEOUS BEINGS
This is not really a toy line, but a place where I could put some miscellaneous (or mythellaneous) toys that I couldn't fit into any particular category. They are representations of gods, goddesses and other Asian mythological creatures.

Toylines in this category that appear on my Wishlist are:

Thundercats

  • Hachiman

Warriors of Virtue

  • Master Chung
  • Barbarocious
