Titan A.E. is a film takes place as the Earth is about to be blown up after an attack by an enemy alien race known as the Drej. It follows a young man named Cale as he journeys to find a new home for humans to live aboard a craft called "The Valkyrie" with a group humans and aliens. Akima Titan A.E. Toy Line 2000, Hasbro Titan A.E. Figure with Electronic Power Turbo Surge Phoenix Okay, maybe I'm totally wrong...because I actually don't know if Akima is an Asian Pacific American. Perhaps somebody out there in Cyberspace knows for sure and can e-mail me. Although she's voiced by Drew Barrymore, once cannot deny that the animated character design has many Asian features. While she is the love interest for Cale (the main character), she is also a strong character capable of looking out for herself. This figure comes with a space vehicle called the Phoenix. It's a nicely done figure and, like the animated character, looks very Asian. Update: June 16, 2000: After pouring through a series of reviews to see if they might mention Akima's race or ethnicity, I finally found this in the review of Titan A.E. in the San Francisco Chronicle. Of Akima they write, "She is Japanese, a reminder of this film's distant family resemblance to anime, which is inclined to be even darker and harder-edged." What's even cooler is that she's Asian Pacific American without explanation. She's not a geisha, dragon lady, ninja or martial arts expert -- she's a pilot, a love interest and a fully developed character.
